Sheet Metal Workers & Roofers Local 409 is the sheet metal and roofing local for mainland Nova Scotia, based in Halifax and affiliated with SMART — the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers. We train, dispatch and represent the journeypersons and apprentices behind the province’s commercial and industrial builds.
01 · Mission
What we stand for.
Sheet metal is one of the most diversified construction trades. Our members work across mainland Nova Scotia in HVAC installation, fabrication and service; architectural sheet metal and cladding; manufacturing; and metal & flat-roof systems — using hand tools, power tools and specialized equipment to fabricate, cut, bend and shape sheet metal and related materials.
- 01Grow our membership with the most highly skilled workers in the province.
- 02Secure desirable working conditions and opportunities for personal growth, comfort and security.
- 03Promote pride in our industry and the work our members do.
- 04Champion environmental responsibility and workplace safety on every job.
- 05Deliver the best value to our contractors — a fair day's work for a fair day's pay.
